the dead goat doesn’t fear the knife

My goal is simple.  I want this to be one of the coolest things you own and that for some inexplicable reason, you are drawn to it again and again.

When you order your ring, I will make the ring that you are supposed to have.  Once upon a time it wasn’t unusual to receive an amulet or a talisman.  But I assure you, the craft is not lost, it is just not as easily found as it once was.

The steel bars are purchased at the local mill and are 100% Swedish steel, which has long been recognized as the world’s finest and has a beautiful “ring” to it if you bounce it on the floor, it sings.

Each solid piece of steel is repeatedly heated in a wood coal fire and beaten on a 200 year old anvil.  While still hot the steel is dipped in raw linseed oil which gives a terrific, organic, non-rusting finish. In fact, the more you wear them, the better they look and the feel intensifies.

There are inherent therapeutic attributes to iron and steel.  You feel it as soon as you touch it.  Not so strange when you consider that WE are by definition connected to carbon steel on a molecular level. How much gold do we have naturally in our bodies? Carbon is one of the main elements in all living things.

Sizing:

Please note that sizing is never an exact science when swinging a large hammer. So each size has roughly the range as stated of the inside diameter.

The Back Story

We live on a farm in rural, southern Sweden.

Our family uses as much as possible from that which we have, namely, bountiful harvests in the summer, wild mushrooms in the fall, believe it or not, maple syrup from our trees in the spring, mind boggling vintage apples unlike anything you have ever tasted that are only at their peak within an hour of being picked.   Old lineage (Viking era) long haired sheep which provide spinning wool, meat, leather and milk which we also make soap from.  Nothing goes to waste.

Having a blacksmith shop is essential when running a farm.  Everything from, tools/fittings, horseshoes, lamps, railings and anything else that feels better done by hand as opposed to buying crap at the store that has no soul and lasts a minimal amount of time.  No electrical tools are used in the process of making these items for sale here.  Only hand tools, most of which are well over 100 years old or made in the shop.

Making skull rings?  That is my absolute passion.   I quit trying to figure that one out a long time ago.

The “Way More than I Needed to Know” section for those that like that sort of stuff:

Everyone’s view on life is different, but one thing is inextricably linked and that is energy.  Whether you’re religious in the traditional sense or not is irrelevant. You are moved by energy and daily effected by it.

My belief is to stack the cards in our favor.  The elements that make you feel good (anything from the ephemeral to hard goods) are the things that you should have around you as much as possible.  This can be a little stone that for whatever reason spoke to you and you now carry in your pocket, or even the picture in your brain of a certain tree, in a certain light, that captured you when you saw it.  You have the ability to control your existence to some extent.

Many ancient cultures both east and west understood these simple realities. Often a Shaman or a Healer would give you an amulet or some other element (as simple as smoke) to help you on your journey.  These elements were not random and were painstakingly prepared before use, tailor made for the recipient.  I can’t claim to understand the complexities of energies and our existence, but I am fully aware of the interplay between us and that certain aspects can be harnessed for our good.

The process of making these rings is arduous.  To just pound out the image and form without concern for the material would result in a much different outcome.
A good example is that the steel is brought to critical temperature (high orange heat and becomes non magnetic) and allowed to slowly cool to room temp before each new step is started.  The reason is to allow the grain structure of the steel to move, relax and then crystalize, resulting in a much different piece of steel than when one started.  The importance is to relieve the stresses that build up in the steel during the forging process so the new form, lets say a ring, is the “natural” unstressed shape of the steel.  Read about the ancient sword making of Japan or during the Viking era to get a better picture of how steel behaves and changes that borders on mysticism.

I have long since found Iron/steel to be a profound element with great abilities to focus one’s inner self.
The icons of the human skull and the heart are overwhelmingly powerful (contemplation/depth/power/serenity).  Ancient cultures, hell, even Shakespeare with Macbeth, understood this to great effect.  I don’t want to get all Voodoo on you now but, I have yet to find anything that effects me more for the good and I am always aware of it on my finger.  Of course we are talking about something you can wear, a strong cup of coffee will effect me more.  You get the idea.

Each ring is made after you have ordered it.  I believe that each ring is being made to be exactly what the recipient needs, a bit voodoo?  Yes, but it’s being made with that person in mind.  Do I understand it?  Hell no.  Does it make a difference???  Damn straight!
I know several people that I have made these rings for that NEVER take them off.  The rings actually change with the user and become part of who they are, an energy interplay.  Others would just say that “Damn, those rings get better looking with use… “.  That too.

Enough of my banter.
Buy the ring because you think it’s cool or buy the ring for something a bit more… there is no right or wrong as long as you enjoy it.
There it is.
